The GS1 DataBar barcode is also known as Reduced Space Symbology (RSS). GS1 DataBar is a 1D barcode. It is self-checking with a high data density. The GS1 DataBar family is designed as a successor to the older EAN/UPC formats.
It generally starts with a two-digit GS1 Application Identifier and can hold the 14 digits of the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number). It is smaller than the UPC and EAN barcode symbols. It carries more data than the UPC or EAN barcodes and its small size makes it a good candidate for small items like produce, jewelry, coupons, and cosmetics.
